Description: Significant and possibly unique "Zimmer's Own Base Ball Game" c.1890's. Recently discovered in the attic of an Ohio estate the offered game possibly represents the prototype for the rarest of all baseball related board games. The 1893 "Zimmer's Base Ball Game" of which there are under five known examples was Patented on Feb. 7, 1893 and features a slightly different board layout with the most notable difference being player portrait vignettes surrounding the playing field. The example that we are auctioning is marked as "Patent Pending" and only has an image of Chief Zimmer. Overall size is 23" square retaining original walnut molded edge framing. Playing field has varying degrees of wear incl. some edge chipping and soiling, missing pitching piece. The few examples of the 1893 Zimmer game that have sold previously at auction have brought between $7,500.00 and a record price of $27,500.00 in a previous Hunt Auction, Inc. sale: VG
