| Description: Rare African American football team photograph c.1899. Very early posed football team albumen image picturing well uniformed squad seated on steps of building. Several men in plain clothes are standing on either side of players and an endearing young girl is seated in the front with a melon style ball dated "99". Based on quality of uniforms and the very fact that a team photo was even taken we presume this to be a high quality collegiate level team and is the earliest African American football team photograph we have encountered. 8"x10" in its' orig. matting and frame: EX |
