One of only two Mayo cards ever graded PSA 8 NM-MT (Other was Glasscock) this card is a true miracle with relation to its' condition and age. The Mayo set is notorious for its' black background stock which chips almost upon contact, the offered card is free from such issues with the exception of one tiny speck on the top edge. Both back and front are equally clean free of any mentionable wear. Plaque measures 4 3/4"x10 1/2" with intricate vine and flower border surrounding a stirring tributary lyric at top by John Kieran underneath which is printed the names of Gehrig's 1939 teamates. Wording at top reads as follows: "To Lou Gehrig-We've been to the wars together; We took our foes as they came; And always you were the leader, And ever you played the game. Idol of cheering millions, Records are yours by sheaves; Iron of frame they hailed you; Decked you with laurel leaves. Extremely tough style to acquire with very few surviving examples, the offered shirt was worn by the son of legendary manager Connie Mack. Creamy white flannel jersey with blue on yellow letter "A" on front and #27 on back. Retains the rare Connie Mack 50th Anniversary patch on sleeve, inside tail are tags from Mitchell & Ness, MacGregor/Goldsmith, and player number. See a Picture of this Item 1080 1981 Mickey Mantle New York Yankees auto. home style Spring Training jersey with letter from Mantle. For the multitude of collectors who have been unsuccessfully looking for a vintage Mantle game worn jersey we may have a sparkling alternative. The offered shirt is a white knit NY Yankees home jersey from the 1981 season worn by Mickey Mantle as a coach during Spring Training which does show evidence of light usage wear. The shirt has McAuliffe tag on the tail alongside year, size, and dry cleaning tags. #7 is emblazened on back and Mantle has signed the front of the shirt in blue sharpie. The jersey is accompanied by a 1992 typed letter from Mantle to the directors of the Danny MacFayden Foundation regarding the authenticity of the shirt. The letter has been signed by Mantle and also has a handwritten notation in the margin by Mantle stating, "To the best of my knowledge!". Fine Mantle piece with undisputable provenance. One of the most elusive pieces of early baseball equipment the offered mask measures 9" tall and features horizontal bar construction secured by two vertical entwined bent iron wires. Oval frame of mask retains its' original canvas padding and has the original head strap (detached at one side) still attached.
