See a Picture of this Item 865 Significant Roy Campanella September 29, 1957 final game worn cleats. The offered baseball cleats were the final pair that Roy Campanella wore in a Brooklyn Dodger game against the Phila. Phillies on September 29, 1957. As a fairly important footnote it is very logical to assume that these cleats were also worn by Campanella on September 24th which was the last game played at Ebbets Field. The notability of these shoes is ironically not because the Brooklyn Dodgers were playing their final season before moving to Los Angeles but in fact because Roy Campanella suffered a career ending injury in a car accident in January of 1958. The cleats have been bronzed and mounted on wooden plaque with placard attached denoting the date and significance of the cleats. It would be obvious to say that as these shoes were being packed up in the locker room by Roy after the season that he did not give much thought to the impending significance that they would symbolize as Campanella was paralyzed for the remainder of his life after the accident. Very appropriate final lot from the Campanella collection with poignant relavance to Roy's life as a baseball player and social figure. Includes letter of provenance from the Campanella family: EX ($7,500.00-$10,000.00) $22,000.00
