See a Picture of this Item 671 Spectacular Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig autographed photograph. While Babe Ruth auto. photos can be fairly easily attained and Lou Gehrig auto. photos, although rare, do occasionally surface it is seldom that authentic Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig signed photographs become available to the collecting public. With note to the aforementioned rarity it is extraordinarily rare to find a Ruth and Gehrig signed photo in a high condition grade; in addition to being a high grade authentic Ruth/Gehrig signed photo the offered example has exceptional provenance. Sepia tone 8"x10" classic image of Ruth and Gehrig in their barnstorming uniforms that was commonly given out (and occasionally signed) during their tour in 11927 and 1928. The photo itself remains very clean with strong original contrast. Ruth has signed in bold blue ink, "To Erhard Pup From Babe Ruth" rating a 9.5 out of 10. Gehrig simply signed, "Lou Gehrig" in similar bold blue ink rating a 10 out of 10. The photo was obtained by Lloyd "Pup" Erhard on October 27, 1927 during a barnstorming game played in Santa Barbara. Erhard later would befriend and coach Satchell Paige. (See Negro League section in this catalogue for related Erhard/Paige piece). We have been fortunate to handle a few of these signed images and have observed a handful in other auctions; without question this is the finest that we have encountered with regard to condition, provenance, and overall presentation. Includes LOA's from PSA/DNA J.Spence-S.Grad, Stephen Koschal, Robert Buckely, several news articles confirming Erhard's relationship with Paige/Major League baseball, and copy of 1961 news article detailing the game day events: Photo: EX-MT, Signatures: NM-NM/MT ($15,000.00-$20,000.00) $17,000.00
