Lot Number: 1205

Description: Superb Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig autographed baseball. Off white Spalding Official NL ball signed in blue ink by Babe Ruth on the sweet spot and Lou Gehrig underneath on side panel. Each signature rate 9-9.5 out of 10 retaining original color and boldness. Opposite side of ball has period notation of "Chicago, Ill. August 18, 1927 38 Home Runs Each" denoting the fact that both Ruth and Gehrig were tied for the lead in the home run race; Ruth would not look back en route to 60 home runs with Gehrig finishing at 47. The ball was obtained at the game played that day at Comiskey Park between the Yankees and White Sox by a Chicago Board of Trade employee who took his daughter (an avid baseball fan) to numerous Chicago Cubs and White Sox games. Once married the woman then promised the ball to her son (at time of her passing) when he reached the age of 21. Until that point when he was 8 years old it resided in the infamous sock drawer where it was gently preserved for many years. The ball has remained in the original recipient's family until this point. Includes LOA and letter of provenance from family, finest quality Ruth/Gehrig ball that we've offered with desirable family lineage and historical notations: Ball: EX-EX/MT, Signatures: NM
