Description: Outstanding "Four Horsemen of Notre Dame" autographed c.1920s photograph (PSA/DNA 7 NM). Sepia toned 8"x10" photograph has been signed by Don Miller, Harry Stuhldreher, Jim Crowley, and Elmar Layden. Each has inscribed the piece "To George" with ink and fountain signatures graded "NM 7" overall by PSA. Under legendary Coach Knute Rockne the quartet served as the backfield for Notre Dames' football team for (3) seasons during which they lost only (2) games. Following an upset win over Army in October of 1924 noted journalist Grantland Rice penned one of the most highly regarded pieces of sports writing ever in which he poetically referred to the group - "Outlined against a blue, gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden." Autographs of all (4) are sought after and highly collectible and pieces such as the offered which are signed by all are rarely offered. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA with a touch of light toning/wear: Sigs. PSA NM 7, Photo EX
