Description: Exceedingly scarce Mickey Welch N-Unc. (Uncatalogued) baseball tobacco card c.1885-86. Sepia tone photographic image of Welch applied to heavy card stock measures approx. 2”x4” with slightly irregular edges. He is identified as “WELSH. P.” below the likeness and there are no other markings or identifiers. This image of Welch appears likely to have been taken at the same sitting as one (showing him with hat on) that was used on a number of cards produced in the period, among others, including his 1886 N167 Old Judge Rookie, 1888 Yum Yum Tobacco, 1888E223 G&B Gum, 1888 N338-2 S.F. Hess, and 1889 Police Gazette Cabinet. There are believed to be less than ten total known examples of this 19th century card issue and all are of New York Giants players.
