Description: 1889 Spalding World Tour "Game at the Pyramids" photograph. Important sepia toned large format photograph offering a rare view of the Chicago White Stockings and All-American teams playing baseball in the desert on February 9, 1889. As recalled by participant James Ryan, the group "introduced the game of baseball to the Sheiks and children of Israel upon the desert sands of Egypt. Five innings satisfied us for the fine sand blowing into our eyes made them sore..." Captioned within "Spalding American Base Ball Party, Chicago vs. All America (The Game at the Pyramids) Feb. 9, 1889" and marked by the photographer "Sebah" at lower right. Tastefully framed to 18"x20", the visible area (approx. 9.25"x13") is very clean with some minor toning and a few scattered flaws to include a crease at lower right and small chip to lower left. The photograph was likely issued as part of a presentational album (given at the time to Tour participants) and this is the first offering we can document of this particular image outside of the example which remains in the lone album which can be confirmed to be intact. From the collection of Tour participant Tom Daly and will include a letter of provenance from the Daly Family: VG
