Description: Babe Ruth Family scrapbook as compiled c.1979. Oversized 19"x23.5" hardcover scrapbook has a notation on the inside front cover which relays that it was assembled in 1979 by Linda and Dorothy Ruth Pirone. It is filled throughout with newspaper, magazine, and other publication page clippings along with other material which relates to Babe Ruth. Portions date as early as the 1920s while the bulk is from later (c.1930s-70s). Notable pieces include (2) unsigned Chemical Bank & Trust Co. Babe Ruth personal checks; a section of check register from 1933 on which Ruth (in his own handwriting) recorded (2) checks written for World Series tickets ("BB tickets World Series" and -NY. B Club World Series") and an additional to "Claire Ruth" constituting a last name autograph; an envelope which was hand addressed by Ruth (not signed); June 1934 report from Christy Walsh related to earnings; some additional correspondence including a pair of fan letters sent to Ruth; a handful of photographs, one or two of which appear to date c.1940s with others from later period; and a greeting card from 1948 which was signed on Ruth's behalf and would have been sent to one of his many well wishers as his health declined. Mild handling and storage wear to book and contents which has all been well secured with glue and/or tape.
