Description: Unique 1926 Babe Ruth autographed presentational baseball bat with extensive provenance. Louisville Slugger Babe Ruth model 40BR bat as presented to Charles Dudley in recognition as the leading hitter in the Los Angeles High School Prep League for 1926. Dudley was the winner of the annual contest held by the Los Angeles Evening Herald and won the autographed bat with a .631 batting average at Manual Arts school. The bat has been autographed by Ruth in black fountain pen on the barrel area rating 7/8 out of 10. The bat is also inscribed in period ink, "To The High School Champion" along with a date of 1926. Additionally, as seen on similar presentational bats from different years of the same contest, an inscribed brass placard is affixed to the barrel front with Dudley's name as the winner of the Evening Herald "Babe Ruth Bat Contest". The bat itself has a few areas of relatively minor surface wear and the brass placard shows typical surface patination. Accompanying the bat is Charles Dudley's personal scrapbook which includes numerous related newspaper articles and photographs two of which picture the actual bat. Several period original images of Dudley are also included along with a June 10, 1926 telegram as sent to Dudley from Babe Ruth himself offering congratulations for winning the contest. Ruth signed bats are among the most uncommon and desirable of all mediums with this particular example quite possibly ranking as having the most documented provenance of the category. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA: Bat: EX, Signature: EX/MT-NM
