Description: 1935 Babe Ruth autographed Boston Braves Player and Executive agreement (Final Player Contract of Career). The disappointment endured by Babe Ruth not being extended a managerial opportunity for his beloved New York Yankees was well documented. After parting ways with the Yankees following the completion of the 1934 season Ruth engaged in discussions with Boston Braves Team Owner and President, Emil Fuchs. Fuchs recognized the drawing power that Babe still possessed and in turn offered him an assistant managerial and executive position in addition to his playing responsibilities. Ruth agreed and signed with the National League club. It was a disaster. With the exception of one magical date in Pittsburgh on which the Babe clouted the final three home runs of his career the Braves lost in horrible fashion. Babe's performance on the field was also beginning to significantly decline. The team's poor performance coupled with Fuch's empty promises led the Babe to elect to retire from the game of baseball on June 1, 1935 thus ending his brief tenure with the Braves. Offered is the original February 28, 1935 two page typewritten agreement between Babe Ruth and the Boston Braves. The agreement is executed on Boston Braves stationery with very interesting content including several references to Fuch's promises to share a percentage of profits with Ruth. Additionally, term #3 on page one confirms "The Boston Club offers you also the position for 1935 of Assistant Manager." and is hand initialed by Fuchs in left margin. Ruth's dream of ascending to be a Major League manager had, briefly, taken flight only to end abruptly with his retirement. The second page of the agreement is signed at the bottom by Braves" Owner/President Emil Fuchs and underneath with very rare "George H. Ruth" full name signature. Black fountain pen autograph rates a resounding 10 out of 10 and is one of the finest Ruth signatures we have encountered, on any medium. The letter itself has typical horizontal fold lines and a few very minor edge creases. Highly significant final playing career contract for Babe Ruth being offered publicly for the first time. Includes full LOA from PSA and letter of provenance from the Ruth family: Agreement: EX, Signature: MT
