Lot Number: 4

Description: 1890 "Players' National League Of Base Ball Clubs" By-Laws. Important typewritten (32) page draft document on legal sized stationary spelled out the rules under which the Player's League operated on a day-to-day basis. The pages remain bound (by a pair of metal eyelets) within their original paper cover and the group displays mild handling and storage wear which is largely confined to the corners and edges. Many of the greatest stars of the period were members of Players' League teams including John Montgomery Ward, Roger Connor, and Pete Browning. Though in existence for only (1) season (1890), the League and what it represented (an attempt to shift power from owners to players) laid the groundwork for much of what the game has become today. Likely the only remaining copy of this historic document which originates from a recent Upstate New York find: VG-EX

Estimated Price Range: ($2,500-$5,000)
