Description: Significant Honus Wagner baseball decorative cigar box c.1919. The offered box ranks as the most treasured of any player endorsed cigar boxes and is one of only three known exemplars. Wooden lidded box has ±Honus Wagnere burned into top of lid surrounded by fan and star decor, front and side exterior panels repeat the impressed Wagner name as on the lid top. Interior reveals a paper lid label picturing a young Wagner on the Louisville Colonels c.1897-1899. Printed advertisement for the Honus Wagner ±Supreme Cigare above image and on interior band. Image derives from the 1897-99 Henry Reccius trade card that was originally discovered in Louisville to which the mate resides in the collection of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Box has some general wear to exterior incl. losses to tax stampings and paper border along with soiling with lid detached from box. Interior label is fairly clean with only some typical age toning, few surface creases, several small paper chips. Important and desirable Wagner endorsed cigar box further documenting the fact that Wagner had no objection to endorsing tobacco products unless they were to be used on pieces that were available to young children: VG-EX
