Description: Significant Roberto Clemente National Baseball Hall of Fame presentational plaque. Just eleven weeks after the tragic passing of Roberto Clemente, a special election was conducted to determine whether a special waiver would occur to allow his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The result was inevitable with nearly 93% of the 424 ballot cast voting to waive the mandatory five year waiting period and immediately elect Roberto Clemente Walker into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Clemente joined Lou Gehrig as the only two players to have ever been elected to the Hall of Fame before the five year waiting period. Even the "no" ballots were due to the specific waiving of the traditional waiting period rather than Clemente's obviously qualified credentials. Offered is the original presentational plaque as given to Vera Clemente during the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in 1973. Classic tooled leather frame housing the original replica of Clemente's Hall of Fame plaque along with "National Baseball Hall of Fame" incised gilt lettering. Overall condition is outstanding with a few very minor surface flakes to the leather frame mentioned for accuracy only. Given its significance as it relates to one of the most iconic players in baseball history and direct family provenance this particular specimen must be considered among the most important of its type to have been publicly offered. Includes letter of provenance from the Clemente family: EX
