Lot Number: 392

Description: Unique Roger Maris and Tracy Stallard dual signed 61st home run notation ball. Clean, white Giles NL baseball bears a vintage 1960's Maris signature on the bottom of a side panel. The signature of Tracy Stallard, the man who served up the pitch hit by Maris for his record setting 61st home run in 1961 is just above Maris'. Throughout the four panels of the baseball Stallard has handwritten the story of that historic day in addition to his signature. Stallard's neatly rendered transcription on the sphere's four panels reads as follows: South panel: "--1--/I arrived at/Yankee Stadium 1 [one]/hour before game./No clue who was/going to pitch when/Sal Maglie handed me/ the ball. I warmed/up 15 minutes./1st inning Maris/Flew out to LF/3rd inning he/hit No. 61 to/break Babe/Ruth's record". North panel: "--2--/I struck him/out in the 6th./He popped out in/his last at bat/against Chet Nichols./Maris later thanked/me for having the nerve/enough to pitch to/him". East panel: "--4--/The H.R. broke/Babe Ruth's/single season/record for H.R's/record set/in 1927". West panel: "--3--/3rd Inning/one out, bases/empty. Inside Fast-/ball I threw inside/for his 61st HR!". Maris' signature rates 7 out of 10 while Stallard's signature and writing rate 9 out of 10. This is the only baseball we are aware of that has been inscribed in this fashion and signed by both of the central figures in one of baseball's most memorable moments. Includes LOA from JSA: NM-NM/MT
