Description: Important 1978 Bucky Dent World Series Most Valuable Player Award. Presentational trophy has a metal placard affixed to the front of the black base which reads, "Major League Baseball And Sport Magazine's 1978 World Series Most Valuable Player Award, Bucky Dent, New York Yankees." Sitting atop is full size figural baseball within a metal circle. All accent pieces are finished in gold color making for a particularly attractive display. "Balfour" label is in place on the underside. The award stands just under 11" tall with base measurements of 9"x4" and there is little mentionable wear. A copy of the original MLB issued press release is included which relays that Dent was the first shortstop and 7th Yankee to be presented with the honor since its' inception in 1955. He had hit (.417) in the Series with (10) hits in (24) at bats along with (7) RBI. He reached base in each of the first (4) games and went (3-4) in both of the last. He is credited with getting the Yankees there having hit one of baseballs' most memorable home runs in the Yankees vs. Red Sox AL East tie-breaker. It should be noted that the offered represents one of a select few Major League Baseball affiliated World Series MVP Awards ever offered at public auction; the more commonly seen "Babe Ruth Award" is presented by the Baseball Writers. It represents one of a few designs which have employed over the years and offers a clean and classic aesthetic.
