Lot Number: 270

Description: 1972 Texas Rangers professional model road jersey - first year holdover from Washington. Flannel jersey traveled from Washington to Texas when the Franchise shifted cities following the 1971 season. It currently has "Rangers" team name across the front and number "46" on back with outlines of the original "Senators" and slightly larger numbers visible below. Wilson tag in the collar notes size (46) and "1971 - Set 2" is embroidered in the front tail. Nice use and wash wear are evident throughout. The jersey originates from Walt Masterson (whom our consignor obtained a number of pieces from many years ago) and includes a handwritten note relaying details of a plan hatched by he and Ted Williams. Masterson was then a Coach in the Rangers Minor League system and Williams brought him up to the Majors half way through the season so that he could get into the then new MLB retirement plan. A rare style and one of only a few we have seen dating to the Rangers first season in Texas. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX with note to description
