Description: 1958 Willie Mays "National League Player of The Month" award - inaugural presentation along with Stan Musial. Attractive penholder has an engraved metal placard on the base which reads, "Presented To Willie Mays, San Francisco Giants, National League Player of The Month, May 1958" with facsimile signature of Warren Giles impressed below. Period accounts relay that it was the first awarding of the NL Player of The Month honor and Mays shared the accolade with Stan Musial after they finished tied in the voting. Black marble base (10"x5") has removable pen and pencil holders (replacements but in the same style as the originals) that sit within metal sleeves and additional portion (which would occupy a spot in the middle) is no longer present. "Sheaffer's" label on the underside. Some wear/residue to the metal placard. Includes certificate of provenance from the Willie Mays Collection:
