Description: Outstanding Kansas City Monarchs team photograph c.1934 (PSA Type I). Early 2 3/4"x4 1/2" sepia tone candid image depicting the Monarchs team posed in uniform standing alongside of the presumed team vehicle. The 1934 team was a powerful mix of both young and old star players to include Turkey Stearmes, Wilbur 'Bullet' Rogan, Newt Joseph, George Giles, and Willie Wells. Light but present vertical surface creasing found across the center portion of the image. Faint date of "Aug. 3 34" stamped on the back. Highly desirable period image from the seminal franchise in Negro League history with the offered example quite likely a unique surviving specimen. Includes letter of provenance from Phil Dixon.
