Description: Rare October 20, 1929 Philadelphia Royal Giants Barnstorming Game panoramic photograph. Oversized 8”x44” sepia tone panoramic image depicting the scene at a barnstorming contest between the Philadelphia Royal Giants and Joe Pirrone’s All-Stars. The barnstorming series was promoted by nightclub owner Joe Pirrone who also ran the California Winter leagues at which the Royal Giants were the dominant team and only all African American entrant. The Philadelphia team is positioned within the left side of the image to include Wilbur “Bullet” Rogan, Andy Cooper, Biz Mackey, and Chet Brewer. Pirrone’s squad shown at right-side of the photo with Tony Lazzeri pictured within the team as noted within the printed titling at center. Image quality and presentation is very fine with several vertical crease and partial tears due to previous ‘scrolling’ during storage. The photograph is currently partially laid down on board and could benefit from some professional conservation.
