Description:Masterful baseball player painting by noted American artist Todd Schorr. Evocative oil on canvas work depicting an early player in full length pose with bat in hand set inside a period stadium complete with advertising prominent on the outfield wall. The composition and use of color bring to mind the large format premiums which were issued by the American Tobacco Company now known as the T3 Turkey Red series, one of the most attractive and sought after sets of baseball cards ever produced. Tastefully framed (at what appears to have been great expense) to 22.75"x28.75" for display. Signed "T.R. Schorr" at lower right. Schorr is an influential painter best known for helping to define the "lowbrow" or pop surrealist movement through highly detailed works that incorporate cartoon imagery, pop culture, and old master techniques. Baseball is rather rare subject for him however this particular work was done many years ago in trade for some sports memorabilia: NM
