Description: Willie Mays San Francisco Giants Retired Jersey Number Presentational display (Mays Collection Photomatch). Important display piece as presented to Willie Mays on August 20, 1983 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on the occasion of "Willie Mays Day". The Giants held an on field ceremony that included a message from President Ronald Reagan before a game between the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants. Mays uniform number 24 was retired by the team and Willie was honored with the offered jersey display. Shadow box display contains a Willie Mays home knit jersey (1980s era) mounted alongside of color image of Mays. Inscribed brass placard below reads, "Willie Mays New York and San Francisco Giants 1951-1972 , 660 Home Runs, Elected to the Hall of Fame, Number 24 Officially Retired by the Giants-August 20, 1983". The display has remained beautifully preserved within the original frame noting some minor surface crazing to top edge of frame as the only notable wear. 27" square Retired jersey presentational items are quite obviously scarce with very few of this significance ever reaching the public market. Outstanding presentational piece with relation to the greatest player in franchise history. Includes vintage color photograph of Mays on the field with the offered jersey display behind him.
