Description: August 4, 1896 New York Giants vs. Washington Senators attributed ball - Jake Beckley 10th inning heroics. Early ball showing considerable use/wear has vintage ink notations which fill a side panel reading in part "New York Match of August 4, 1896 versus the Washington BBC…10 innings…" with scores (New York won 6-5) noted in between. A period newspaper account relays that "Eagle-eye Jake Beckley came to the rescue of the New Yorks in the tenth inning with a high fly...that brought home Connaughton with the winning run." The game was played at the Polo Grounds and also included fellow Hall of Famer George Davis and a number of other notable players of the time.
