Description: "Chicago Base Ball Club, Championship 1885 1886" presentation style silver trophy ball. Silver plated presentational baseball with stitches engraved stitching having a baseball diamond decoration applied at the center. Engraved text reads, "Presented To The Chicago Base Ball Club" with "Championship 1885 1886" noted below. "By John Knieriem of Brooklyn" is lettered across the bottom. The exact origins of the piece are unknown however we can reasonably presume that it relates to the 1885 and 1886 Chicago White Stockings, the team which would later become the Chicago Cubs. Lead by A.G. Spalding and Cap Anson, the White Stockings won the National League Pennant for both of those seasons. Other notables on their roster included Hall of Famers King Kelly, John Clarkson along with Billy Sunday (who would go on to fame as an evangelist) and stars Silver Flint, Jimmy Ryan, and Fred Pfeffer. The ball retains fine display value with a hint of light tarnish and there are a series of small indentations throughout. While it cannot be definitively stated that the piece relates to the White Stockings specifically it does serve as a desirable early piece that more than likely is tied to an early powerhouse of baseball: GDEstimated Price Range: ($2,500-$5,000)
