Lot Number: 132

Description: Scarce "Spruce-Up With Mickey Mantle" point of sale display with related material c.1955. Die-cut promotional piece and base would have been used at point of sale and promoted a line of "phantom-knit underwear." A young Mickey Mantle (shown during his Rookie season with 1951 patch on sleeve) is depicted on the left side. Upright portion measures 16"x13" at extremes with a touch to edges and a horizontal crease through the upper third ( visible but not breaking the surface). The die-cut sits in a large (20.25"x20") wooden base which has Spruce advertising across the front and compartments which would have held product (EX/MT-NM). Also includes a large folder (11"x14") which would have been sent along to the retailer containing a variety of promotional/related pieces. These include a printed image of the point of sale display as it was to be set up, period photo of Eddie Mathews which matches an image printed inside one of the promos, (3) small advertising pieces intended to have been hung in the store (or window) (two of these mention Mantle, the third mentions Mantle, Mathews, and Duke Snider), and others. Exceedingly rare and the only example we have ever offered: VG-EX
