Description: Superlative 1969 Willie Mays "Greatest Giant Ever" presentational sterling silver platter (Mays Collection Photomatch). Very fine quality sterling silver platter with a remarkable total weight of 68.3 ounces as presented to Mays during on field ceremonies at Candlestick Park honoring him as the greatest player in the history of the franchise. The platter is engraved with an image of Mays batting titled "To the Greatest Giant Ever Willie Mays From His Teammates Candlestick Park, August 31, 1969". Facsimile signatures of Mays' teammates are scattered throughout the front portion of the platter surface including Monte Irvin and Bobby Thomson. The award was given to Mays by his teammates during on field ceremonies honoring Mays during a double header played between the Giants and New York Mets. Stamped with manufacturer's hallmarks and 'sterling' designation on the back. 17" diameter with light general surface wear.
