Description: 2013 Willie Mays Rawlings Gold Glove Lifetime Achievement Award. Important presentational award given to Willie Mays in recognition of his lifetime achievement with a career total of twelve National League Gold Glove Awards. Substantive weighted base with mahogany style veneer coating displaying two gilt decorated Rawlings baseballs and a fielder’s glove with inset engraved acrylic image of Mays. Applied brass placard on front of the base engraved to Willie Mays. Johnny Bench presented Mays with the award during the 2013 Gold Glove Award banquet at which Willie received four separate standing ovations throughout the evening. Mays was quoted at the event, “I wish I could get two of these awards; one for the people of New York and one for the people of San Francisco. When I came here I was a 20-year-old from Birmingham, and the people here never made me feel anything but welcome. And then the same thing happened when we moved to California.” Very fine career award from arguably the greatest defensive player in the history of the game.
