Description: 1957 Willie Mays National League Gold Glove Award (Duplicate Copy)(Mays' First Gold Glove Award). Duplicate rendering ordered by Mays himself of this prestigious figural award as presented annually to the premier defensive players of the National and American Leagues by position. Walnut wooden plinth base displays a full-size gilt-painted Rawlings leather glove with “Major League All Star Fielding Team” impressed black lettering. Gold decorated Rawlings baseball positioned alongside a brass pedestal having “1957 Rawlings Gold Glove Award, CF Willie Mays, The Sporting News All Star Fielding Team” inscribed on front. 12” long with very minimal surface wear. The 1957 season was the first in which Mays was honored with a Gold Glove Award and would finish his career with a total of twelve in all.
