Description:1871 Boston Red Stockings stock certificate - historic piece from the founding season of the modern day Atlanta Braves. Desirable original stock certificate dated February 13, 1871 and related to the founding of the Boston Red Stockings. They were members of the newly formed National Association, the precursor to our modern day National League. Lead by Manager Harry Wright their roster included a number of the most notable players of the time including his brother George Wright and Al Spalding who would gain fame after founding the sporting goods Company which bears his name to this day. The club would spend (82) years playing in Boston before a shift to Milwaukee and then their current home in Atlanta. The organization remains the oldest continually operating sports franchise in America. Paper stock approx. 5.25"x8.75" certificate dated February 13, 1871 has "The Boston Base Ball Association" titling across the top. It represented (5) shares and has been signed by team President Ivers Whitney Adams and Treasurer Harrison Gardner. Light toning and some mild general handling wear as expected.
