Lot Number: 519
Description:Rare "National Game of Base Ball" c.1880s. Early boxed game (6.25"x4.25"x1") has a beautifully illustrated lid showing a game in play. "The National Game of Base Ball" titling is significant in that it is one of the earlier references to the sport being our National Pastime. Displays well with general handling and age related wear including discoloration and chipping. Found inside are a number of original playing cards. Unmarked but known to have been made by E.I. Horsman who would gain fame as the first to market stuffed animals as "Teddy Bears" after President Roosevelt. First example we can recall offering in over a decade: GD
