Original figural trophy as presented to Bill Walton for his outstanding 1977-78 NBA season in which he was awarded the honor of Most Valuable Player. Beautifully crafted award befitting the highest personal player honor within the NBA consisting of a walnut plinth style base having four large brass columnar supports. Additional wooden platform rests atop the columns with ornate figural basketball player finial on cup at top. Inscribed metal placard on the base, "National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Bill Walton Portland Trail Blazers 1977-78". Total height measures an impressive 46" presenting in superb general condition with a few scattered areas of wear to the wooden base finish. Noted for accuracy only, the top player finial has been professionally re-attached to the base support not visible to the naked eye. Bill Walton entered the 1977-78 having led the Tril Blazers to their first (and only) NBA championship. For the first sixty games of the season it appeared as though Portland was on their way to a potential repeat title winning fifty of those contests. Bill Walton led the way 18.9 points and 13.2 points in addition to 2.5 blocks per game until a foot injury ended his regular season. Walton's season was so impressive that he still captured the NBA MVP honors in addition to being named to the All-Defensive and All-NBA First Teams. The offered award not only represents the most significant personal achievement of Walton's Hall of Fame career but in many ways was also the crowning accolade from the prime of his stellar NBA career. One of the more significant NBA Most Valuable Player Awards to have been offered at public auction and includes signed letter of provenance from Walton Family: EX-MT
