Description: Significant Inaugural 1972 Bill Walton Adolph Rupp Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player Award (NCAA Championship Season). Prestigious national collegiate award bearing the namesake of one of the great icons in the history of the game in Adolph Rupp. The award was the first of its type ever presented and is the first of three presented to Bill Walton as a member of the UCLA Bruins. Substantive bronze pillar features an abstract basketball player figural in a shooting position with award titling in raised lettering at its base. Bronze is mounted on a two tier mahogany wooden plinth base with brass placard affixed to the front engraved, "Bill Walton 1972". General condition is very fine with light patination to a few areas of the bronze sculpture. The wooden base has been expertly restored due to moisture damage to its original wooden plinth. Walton was fittingly named as the inaugural recipient of the Rupp Award in recognition of leading the UCLA Bruins to the NCAA title as the leading player in College Basketball. Notable trophy is one of the most significant in the Walton Collection and equally important as the first of its namesake to have been presented. Includes signed letter of provenance from Walton Family: EX-MT (*With note to base restoration).
