Description:UPDATED DESCRIPTION: Rare 1951 Robin Roberts Philadelphia Phillies professional model road jersey (SGC/Grob: Excellent) (Palo Alto Oaks provenance). Grey flannel jersey displays beautiful "Phillies" embroidered team name across the front with original matching "36" on back. "Roberts - 51" chain stitched strip tag appears on the collar with proper Wilson manufacturer's tag with correct "44" size indicator on the tail front. Affixed to the sleeve is a very rare original National League 75th Anniversary patch which appears to have been re-applied in the period. Outstanding general use and wash wear throughout with superb overall eye appeal having beautifully preserved patina with only one replaced button. The jersey is one of only a very small group of Roberts game jerseys dating to the early portion of his Hall of Fame career. The jersey was obtained from a gentleman who briefly played for the Oakland Oaks in the Pacific Coast League and was golf caddy to Ty Cobb. In 1954, that very same former player took over the semi-pro "Palo Alto Oaks" team continuing involvement with the team until the age of 90.
