Description:1939 Wally Berger Cincinnati Reds professional model home jersey likely issued for the World Series (plus 1940 pants). Cream colored flannel has the "Reds" team logo patch on left front chest and number "22" on back. "Goldsmith" tag appears in the collar and the name "Berger" is chain stitched below. The year, "39", is likewise embroidered in the left front tail. The jersey is well preserved with expected use/wear throughout along with some mild discoloration which is likely due to age and storage. In addition, the top button is missing and the two below have been replaced. MEARS documentation including working notes prepared by Dave Grob (dated 2017) relays his strong belief that this jersey was issued for use in the 1939 World Series. This is based on a variety of factors including the style of Reds patch (those worn during the regular season are distinctly differed) and lack of a 1939 Centennial patch (and no evidence of one ever having been applied). Images taken of Reds players during home games played in Cincinnati during the post-season show them wearing a matching Reds logo and no Centennial patch. Included for display are a pair of size (36) pants which have "40" year stitched in (a tear is stabilized with tape) and black stirrup socks. A very desirable jersey which likely saw action in the Reds first World Series appearance since 1919. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions and MEARS (graded A5.5): EX
