Description:Babe Ruth endorsed Japanese calligraphy kit c.1934. Vintage calligraphy kit in the form of a 9"x4.75" lacquer painted box (with mother of pearl inlay) which contains a brush, ink stone, and partial block of ink. The interior of the lid bears an "Non Pro Baseball Association Of Japan" logo with gold colored "Babe Ruth" facsimile signature applied above. Text below roughly translates to "Presentation...Japan Amateur Baseball Association, Central Regional Federation...Shizouka City Board of Education, Mainichi Shimbun." The Mainichi is one of Japan's leading newspapers and can trace its' founding back to 1872. They presumably issued this kit in honor of the landmark 1934 Tour of Japan by a team of U.S. All-Stars who barnstormed through the Country playing games. There is mild general use and age/storage related wear. The first of its' type which we have seen or offered: VG-EX
