Lot Number: 156

Description: Babe Ruth single signed baseball with outstanding provenance c.1928. Red and blue stitched Reach Official American League baseball has been signed on the side panel, "To Joseph Snellenburg, From Babe Ruth." Fountain pen signature rates approx. 6 out of 10 and the ball shows toning/discoloration and some light surface wear throughout. It was signed when Ruth made an appearance at Snellenburg's, a Philadelphia based department store. A newspaper article which appeared in the May 27, 1928 edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer covers Babe's visit in great detail including his stop by the office of the store's owner Nathan Snellenburg "shortly after 10 A.M...The reception committee included Morton, Joseph, Stanley, Abraham, Harry and Nathan...Each received an autographed ball from Ruth." A very attractive example for display and especially desirable given the well documented history. Includes full LOA from JSA and modern copy of the newspaper image picturing Ruth signing the baseballs at the store: Overall EX
