Description: Superb Johnny Bench professional model baseball bat c.1973-75. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Bench facsimile signature burned into the barrel measures just under 35.5" long and weighs 32oz. Model number "B278" has been stamped in the knob which also bears a pencil notation placed there at the time of manufacture denoting weight; a trait listed in factory records as being requested by Bench starting in July of 1973. Number "5" is written inside the cupped end vintage black marker. Extensive usage wear is evident throughout the barrel which has grain swelling on both sides of the hitting surface along with scattered rack marks. There is a crack to the upper handle which retains a thick coat of pine tar. An outstanding example dating to the era in which Bench and the Big Red Machine dominated the National League.
