Description: 1890-1920s Sporting News and Spink correspondence and related pieces incl. Ring Lardner letter. Interesting group of correspondence (24 pieces) from the offices of the famed publication and publisher to Frank Parke who is acknowledged in one 1920 dated letter as "our correspondent since 1887." Earliest dates to 1890 (signed A.H. Spink) and there are a pair from 1893 (on beautifully illustrated stationery, one signed by C.C. Spink). Balance date from teens and early 20s with 1911 letter signed by Ring Lardner ("R.W. Lardner"), (4) signed by Charles Spink (one secreterial), and all others signed by Editor Earl Obenshain (one secreterial). Also includes an early "Instructions To Correspondents" sheet, 1922 "Representative" card (secreterial Spink sig), a pair of mailing envelopes, and a period telegram. Varying degrees of wear throughout with corner/edge chipping to lower left corner of many pieces. Includes auction LOA from JSA (with regard to Lardner letter): GD-EX
