Description: Mickey Mantle attributed c.1956-59 personal model baseball glove (MEARS "Authentic"). Rawlings top of the line "Mickey Mantle Personal Model" left handed glove displays considerable usage wear. As relayed in the accompanying documentation, the glove was obtained from Mantle by a young fan in September of 1959. The two had met several years prior when the boy was working in his father's bar and Mantle went in with teammate Hank Bauer. Over subsequent visits they struck up a friendship and it was discovered that they shared the same birthday of October 20th (albeit in different years). As the letter of provenance states, "...One night in September [1959] Mickey visited the bar and gave me a glove he said he had used and wanted me to have it for my birthday..." Although Mantle is documented to have extensively used a Harvey Haddix model glove, it is not at all uncommon for players to have worn their model gloves as furnished by Companies with whom they had endorsement deals. Though lacking any player specific identifiers (such as written on number or name), MEARS has concluded, based on provenance and their research, that "it is with high probability that this glove was owned and worn by the Mick." It should be noted that the written history relays that while the glove was broken in when it was gifted by Mantle to his fan, the boy then used it further not realizing the historical significance it might have held. Includes letter of provenance and related documentation from MEARS: EX
