Description: Fine c.1920s Babe Ruth single signed baseball - an outstanding example long cherished by 1st NASA Director of Manned Space D. Brainerd Holmes. Spalding red and black stitched J.Heydler Official National League baseball has been signed "Babe Ruth" across the sweetspot. The fountain pen signature rates 7/8 out of 10. Ball displays mild age toning and has a touch of light scattered wear. The ball was a childhood keepsake of D. Brainerd Holmes who took over the running of NASA just as President John F. Kennedy made it a National priority to put a man on the moon. Under his leadership, the agency flew John Glenn into space making him the first US astronaut in orbital flight. Holmes would go on to run International Defense contractor Raytheon helping to develop many of our Nation's most important defense systems. It is relayed by the Holmes Family that through all of those years, the offered Babe Ruth baseball was proudly displayed on his desk.
