Description: Babe Ruth career related scrapbooks with choice content. Fascinating pair of scrapbooks as assembled by a dedicated fan and collector cover many notable events. Mixed through newspaper and other publication clippings are a number of noteworthy and highly desirable pieces including photographs and autographs. Highlights incl. autographed 3"x4.75" sepia toned snap shot photo with "Babe Ruth" signature on front that was traced/enhanced at later date. Notation on back relays that it was taken in 1920 at The Polo Grounds; Tour of Japan period c.1934 photographs (4) incl. choice snapshot of Ruth at bat and (3) small photos which a handwritten notation relays were obtained from the estate of Moe Berg. These incl. a shot of players (incl. Ruth and Gehrig) in kimonos, snapshot of Berg with Ruth in background, and an image of the famed group of players on the ship in which they sailed; c.1930s Claire and Babe Ruth Christmas card (unsigned but with mailing envelope that appears to have been addressed in her hand); original ink signatures of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris on vintage index cards (discoloration over signatures); snapshot of Ruth at the 1939 Hall of Fame Induction ceremony along with related pieces incl. ticket stub to 1939 Hall of Fame Game; several additional snapshots incl. early 1920s view of Ruth in uniform, (4) early 1920s shots of Ruth on vacation, (3) 1940s image of Ruth golfing, a pair of slightly photos of Ruth at the home of a young cancer stricken fan, and others; late 1920s 8"x10" sepia toned Ruth underwear premium photo with secretarial fountain pen signature (an "old new stock" label is mounted below); a selection of additional Ruth related photography to include a handful of images which may have been produced during his career/lifetime, a number of vintage second or third generation photos (some stamped "Culver" on back), and some which have been produced more recently; original notecard as sent to a well wisher in 1947 when he sick which has secretarial fountain pen signature (with envelope); portion of Ruth's 1947 "Ruth Day" speech at Yankee Stadium which has been handwritten/transcribed by Claire Ruth; original seating card as would allowed bearer into Ruth's funeral and a thank you card from the family as sent to well wisher; autographs of players/others whom have relation to notable Ruth home runs or other career related events incl. Joe DiMaggio (vintage), Yogi Berra (8"x10"), Jack Warhop, Bert Cole, Paul Hopkins, Tom Zachary (vintage index card), Willis Hudlin, Emil Fuchs, Guy Bush, (2) Mrs. Babe Ruth signatures (Claire), and signed image of his daughter Julia; and others. With the exception of the newsprint clippings, it appears that all of the material can be removed without risk of damage however it should be noted that there are varying degrees of wear to pieces themselves.
