Lot Number: 452

Description: George Weiss personal 1911 scorebooks as High School and/or semi-pro team Manager (Overall) Fascinating pair of bound Victor Sporting Goods baseball scorebooks as kept by George Weiss starting in 1911 when he was just (17) years of age. Then in High School, it appears that most games involved a mix of different teams from New Haven High (where he attended) and/or a team called "The Colonials" or "Colonial A.C." Of particular interest is a September 10, 1911 game played against a team noted as "Colored Giants." This foreshadowed the founding a few seasons later, by Weiss, of the New Haven Colonials which became a successful exhibition game team drawing a host of notable opponents including Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, and Walter Johnson. One of the books is signed on the first inside page, "George M. Weiss, Mgr." Both have general handling and age related wear with some toning/chipping/small tears to inside pages. Also included is a staple bound group of printed scoring forms (not intended for baseball but used anyhow) on which details for several games have been recorded. Several of these (5) have been signed "Weiss" on the "scorer" line. Most certainly the eariest substantive pieces as relate to the Hall of Fame career of Weiss whom spent a lifetime involved in baseball and was closely associated with some of the games' greatest teams. Includes auction LOA from JSA: Overall EX
