Description: Christy Mathewson attributed professional model glove c.1905-1910. Wright & Ditson brand left handed glove is a top of the line split finger model with 2.5" web joining thumb to forefinger. A well preserved manufacturers label remains in place on the wriststrap and there is some general usage and mild age related wear. Included letter of provenance from a Mathewson descendant relays that the glove "was owned and used by my great-uncle Christy Mathewson. I have owned this glove since about 1940 when it was given to me as a Christmas present by my great-aunt Jane (Christy's wife)...aunt Jane specifically mentioned that this was a glove that Christy had actually played with while a member of the New York Giants..." Not having a sense of the historical or monetary value until many years later, he goes on to state that he played with the glove on occasion and there are some faint scratched in initials which are likely the result. Mathewson remains a baseball immortal; revered as one of the game's most dominant pitchers with career statistics that rank him among the best to have ever played.
