Lot Number: 407

Description: Fine 1978 Reggie Jackson New York Yankees home jersey attributed to the 1978 World Series. Pinstriped Yankees home knit jersey retains its original "NY" logo on the front and number 44 on the reverse. "Jackson 78 1" chain stitched onto a white strip tag is affixed inside the collar area with Wilson mfg. label (appropriate dating period) on the tail front. The shirt exhibits very fine evident use and wash wear inclusive of light surface pilling and a few areas of minor soiling. Reggie Jackson is without question one of the greatest sluggers in baseball history, and it was his tenure with the New York Yankees that made him into a legendary name. Alongside such greats as Thurman Munson and Ron Guidry, Jackson helped lead the 1977 and 1978 Yankees teams to back to back World Championships. During this period, Jackson cemented his legacy by compiling superb postseason statistics, earning the nickname, "Mr. October" from Thurman Munson. The offered jersey is one of only a scant few authentic surviving examples remaining in outstanding original condition. It has been matched to several photographs of Jackson which were taken during the 1978 World Series, and as such, is one of the most important to come to market. The accompanying two photographs illustrate several places where the pinstripes interest with each other as well as with the "NY" on the front and "44" on the back of the offered shirt. The jersey originates from a primary team source and is being offered for the first time publicly. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and letter of provenance from the original recipient: EX
