Lot 1081

Description: August 1, 1948 Jefferson Burdick signed (4) page letter with content regarding acquisition of his T206 Wagner and placement of collection within The Met (VG/EX) Handwritten letter fills the blank sides of (4) pages from one of his catalog/supplement editions and has been signed at the close, "Jeff." It relates to the disposition of the Burdick and Wagner collections and their future as collectors given the nearing of retirement and end of a steady stream of income. Burdick had already decided that his material was to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and is relaying his thoughts on Wagner selling his. Most significant is the second page, part of which reads "I'll sure be glad to get the Wagner card. One of those should be preserved in a museum. Bray has one and I think Garrison has one but am not sure...I doubt many more will be found." Some other interesting portions read, "...time to get our house in shape while we are able to do it...I am placing my cards where they will be taken care of...there is a possibility that they will be worth more in future years but I sort of doubt it...I want also for you to tell me what you want me to say, or not say, about the Wagner...I'd like to give you full credit for this generous action." Fold lines and some mild discoloration, which appears to be from moisture, along the tops of all pages: VG/EX
