Description:Baseball player in early uniform figural display piece (see description for information and condition) Figural display piece based on the original which dates to the early 1900s and while not formally identified closely resembles Christy Mathewson. The original shows a full pose standing player; this piece represents a rendering from the thighs up. Mounted to oval shaped wooden base it stands approx. 12.5" tall. Era of manufacture is unclear however we are inclined to believe that this is a more modern casting made from a more dense plaster/chalkware than the original. In addition it appears to have several repairs or pieces added on which are made from a different substance. The hat brim, being one of these, appears to have broken off and been reaffixed with a deep visible seam and some surface loss. There are a few other very small chips/flakes. With some material added to seam and a repainting this piece would offer fine display qualities: see description
