Rare Harrisburg Giants team cabinet photograph c.1922-27. Mounted 8"x10" image of the team in full uniform posed on steps of a local general store. Players are positioned in three rows including their coach Spottswood Poles in the bottom row second from right. Poles was nicknamed "the black Ty Cobb" and was regarded as one of the finest African American athletes of all time. His playing career spanned nearly 15 years with numerous teams including the New York Giants and Hilldale Daisies. In addition Poles served in World War I earning five battle stars and a purple heart before returning to play another four years.
