Lot 433

Description: Mickey Mantle professional model baseball bat c.1964. Very fine Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 35" long and weighs 31.6oz. Bat exhibits exceptional use incl. pine tar residue 10"-13" from the knob (typical Mantle trait), ball marks, deep stitching impressions to all sides of the barrel, rack marks, cleat marks, and an "H" style handle crack. K90 model number is stamped on the knob end. Remnants of an illegible number written in period black marker, which was likely a "7" at one point, appear on the end of the knob. Interestingly, the bat has a vintage black marker hand drawn circle on the barrel with "HiT HERE" written in what certainly resembles Mantle's own hand. The offered bat was obtained directly after Mantle had cracked the bat during use and was then presented, indirectly, to the current owner. Mantle game used bats of this quality with strong provenance are very seldom offered. Includes LOA from MEARS Authentication (Graded A8.5; a .5 point upgrade is available if the handle crack is repaired): EX
