| Description: 1941 Joe DiMaggio figural trophy. Prestigious trophy awarded to Joe DiMaggio by the Philadelphia Sportswriter's Association in honor of being the "Outstanding Athlete for 1941". Mahogany columnar trophy features a large figural batter at the top with a winged eagle on the base. Brass placard remains affixed to the front inscribed, "Philadelphia Sporting Writers Association Outstanding Athlete Award 1941 to Joe DiMaggio New York Yankees World Champions". The brass placard on the front has some light surface wear incl. a few scratches. The batter figural has been re-attached to the support where it had been affixed and the bat has been repaired at the center. Due to being stored in a separate area and environment, the gilt finish to the batter has remained slightly more vibrant then that of the other metalwork on the trophy. 20" tall: VG-EX |
